Some things just won't fit in a trunk, so often they will buy used trucks to carry around the incredible amounts of equipment that is part of their daily work. Many of the construction workers drive company provided trucks with gas cards, so that their own money isn't going into the gas tank. Unfortunately, someone pays for the fuel that these trucks use, and generally that gets pushed onto the consumer eventually. Once there are more hybrid trucks for people to choose from for people who need used trucks for work, the savings for consumers will be better.
